# Produce the documents you have to file

*Whose job: the city manager. You should see a booklet, stamped with the data and configuration it was made from.*

## What you are doing

You are producing the documents the council actually has to file: a committee paper, a brief for a general manager, a grant submission, a valuation or a state return.

This is where the work stops being internal. Somebody outside the council reads these, and the person who signs them is usually not the person who made them — which is why every figure in them carries where it came from.

## What PaveKeep does with it

A booklet, and when rendered, a document with its bytes kept.

Each one is stamped with what produced it: the data as it stood, the configuration in force, and the version of the calculation. That stamp is the difference between a document you can defend a year later and a PDF you cannot account for.

## What it will not do

- **The method** — A document cannot be more certain than the survey under it. A valuation of a network that is a third surveyed is a valuation with an assumption in it, and the document says so rather than presenting a clean number.
- **The product** — It produces the documents this product knows how to produce. A return your state requires in a shape we have not built is not generated, and the export is what fills the gap in the meantime.
- **Your role** — Producing documents needs the programme capability. Reading them needs nothing beyond being in the council.
- **Your subscription** — Booklets and compliance packs are modules. Without them the numbers are still there and reachable through the export; what you lose is the finished document.

## How you know it worked

**Before:** a network with a survey, and a programme.

**Do:** Booklet, choose a template, render it.

**After:** a PDF, and a record of the render carrying the data and configuration it was made from.

**If it was wrong**, delete the render and produce it again. The booklet is a definition and the render is an artefact; deleting the artefact loses nothing but the file.

**Hand to:** whoever signs it. Tell them the surveyed share, because they are the one who will be asked.

---

**If it went in wrong:** this step can be undone, and the undoing stays on the record rather than erasing what happened.
